Lei Jun, founder and president of Xiaomi Technology, revealed that Xiaomi had planned to start the second-phase construction of its high-end mobile phone smart factory in Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone, at the 2020 Zhongguancun Forum held on September 17.
According to Lei Jun, the smart factory will have only 100 staff working there after put into production, which is sufficient for the factory to achieve an annual output value of 60 to 70 billion yuan.
"Except for the process of loading and unloading, there is no need for any worker on the production line," Lei Jun said when introducing Xiaomi’s smart factory in Beijing’s Yizhuang District.
Except for the placement machine, all production equipment in the factory is independently developed by Xiaomi or by companies invested by Xiaomi, according to Lei.
Xiaomi’s smart factory in Yizhuang District covers an area of 18,600 square meters, which is equipped with a full-process automated production line from production management to machine processing, packaging and storage. The factory can produce more than one million smart phones each year.
According to some sources, the production line is used to only produce high-end smartphones. Besides, the factory will also be used for testing cutting-edge materials, technologies and manufacturing processes, as well as for pre-research projects and the R&D of automated equipment.
